Do you have a background in physics and want to put your skills to work in the civil nuclear energy sector? In the second year (M2) of the Physics master’s program, the Radiation Protection (RP) pathway enables you to specialize in this strategic field. This course opens doors to the main civil nuclear applications: industrial, medical and research-related.
The RP pathway is co-accredited with the Institut national des sciences et techniques nucléaires (INSTN), the school specializing in low-carbon energy and health technologies. Thanks to this collaboration, you will also be able to obtain specific authorizations for access to certain secure nuclear sites.
Training objectives
The Radiation Protection program aims to train professionals capable of carrying out radiation protection missions:
- In France, in accordance with the regulatory requirements defined by :
- Article R.4451-123 of the French Labor Code,
- Article R.1333-19 of the French Public Health Code,
- Article R.593-112 of the French Environment Code.
- Internationally, at the highest level, by preparing for the role of Radiation Protection Expert (RPE).
Specific training features
The course enjoys dual academic and institutional recognition thanks to its partnership with INSTN, which is :
- A public higher education institution administered by the CEA (Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives);
- A collaborating center of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) in the fields of :
- Education and training in nuclear technologies,
- Industrial and radiopharmaceutical applications,
- Nuclear power,
- Nuclear safety and security.
Part of the course is taught on the INSTN campus in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, where you will have the opportunity to train in real-life conditions on a training site.
