Master in Physics of Energy and Energy Transition (PEnTE)

Toulouse University

Description

Created in 2014 in partnership with the University of Toulouse (formerly “Université de Toulouse III Paul Sabatier”) and EDF, the Physics of Energy and Energy Transition (PEnTE) master’s degree prepares students for the challenges of the energy transition, which aims to transform electricity production methods to reduce their impact on the environment and climate.

The Master’s degree is a two-year, multi-disciplinary, cross-disciplinary course, accessible with a Bac+3 or equivalent. Students are trained for a wide range of engineering professions in the low-carbon power generation sector, with a particular focus on nuclear power, as well as for the wide range of related activities.

This training focuses on mastering the physical concepts and instrumental techniques associated with low-carbon power generation, and on understanding and applying the safety and radiation protection rules and constraints inherent to the nuclear industry. The aim is to train managers for engineering jobs in the fields of low-carbon energies, mainly nuclear, industrial maintenance, nuclear safety and radiation protection.

Université de Toulouse

The involvement of professionals from EDF, in particular the Golfech nuclear power plant, and the CEA (French Atomic Energy Commission) ensures that students are well prepared for their professional insertion, while keeping pace with developments in this sector in the context of the energy transition. The Master’s program is also supported by a large number of teacher-researchers from various UPS laboratories.

The knowledge and skills developed during the course also enable students to prepare a doctoral thesis in public or industrial laboratories in the nuclear, particle physics or high-energy fields.

To encourage professional integration, this master’s program is available as a sandwich course from the first year (M1).

The PEnTE master’s program was evaluated by I2EN experts and awarded the label in 2021, a guarantee of its academic and professional excellence.
