The company is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, while developing innovative solutions to meet today’s energy challenges. EDF owns and operates 78 nuclear reactors worldwide, including 57 in France and 15 in the UK. Today, EDF is investing heavily in the new generation of reactors.

CNPE FlamanvilleEDF is currently concentrating on several major nuclear projects. One of its priorities is the construction of new EPR2 reactors, an optimized version of the EPR, with plans for six units, the first two of which will be located at Penly in Seine-Maritime. Preparatory work has already begun on the Penly site, with an initial phase lasting around three years. Commissioning of these reactors is scheduled for 2037. At the same time, EDF is finalizing the Flamanville EPR, which recently began its divergence phase, with connection to the power grid scheduled for late autumn 2024. The company is also pursuing construction of two EPRs at Hinkley Point C in the UK.

EDF is developing advanced nuclear technologies, including the NUWARD project, which consists of a third-generation small modular reactor (SMR). These initiatives demonstrate EDF’s commitment to renewing and expanding its nuclear capacity, while seeking to improve the efficiency and profitability of its projects.
