The Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority (ASNR) was established on January 1, 2025, through the merger of the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) and the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN). This reorganization aims to strengthen the performance, independence, and appeal of nuclear regulation in France, in the context of industrial revival and new EPR2 projects. Its main responsibilities include overseeing civil nuclear activities in France, conducting expert assessments and research in nuclear safety and radiation protection, training stakeholders, and informing the public. It ensures compliance with safety and radiation protection standards and contributes to fostering a safety culture at both national and international levels.
ASNR Academy, the brand dedicated to professional training, reflects the new authority’s international ambition. It offers a QUALIOPI-certified training catalog covering nuclear safety, radiation protection, and emergency management. These programs are tailored for radiation protection advisors, occupational physicians, engineers, industry professionals, and other sector stakeholders. Through international partnerships, notably with I2EN, and its global presence, ASNR Academy contributes to building international expertise and promoting French know-how in nuclear safety and radiation protection.
