The National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management (Andra) is a French public industrial and commercial institution established in 1991. Its main mission is to ensure the long-term management of radioactive waste produced in France, protecting both current and future generations. Andra designs, implements, and guarantees safe storage solutions, notably through the Cigéo project, a deep geological repository for the most radioactive waste. The agency also manages the national inventory of radioactive materials and waste, and conducts research and testing to improve waste management solutions. It operates several facilities across France for both short- and long-term waste storage.
Andra also offers specialized training for nuclear industry professionals, along with international support to share its expertise through European projects and technical cooperation with other countries. These training programs and exchanges enhance safety and skills beyond French borders, contributing to global recognition of its expertise. Andra is a key partner in EURAD, a major European initiative dedicated to research on radioactive waste management.
