Program description

The vocational high school program in “Nuclear maintenance, logistics, and operation” prepares future technicians to become active members of operational teams working on nuclear facilities. This program trains future professionals to:
  • participate in nuclear logistics operations,
  • carry out preventive and corrective maintenance operations,
  • participate in nuclear waste management operations,
  • and participate in the dismantling of nuclear facilities.
Students learn how to carry out these activities while observing and enforcing the radiation protection, safety, security, and quality regulations in force in the nuclear industry. Working in the nuclear industry requires specific behavioral skills, such as rigor, availability, stability, leadership associated with proven interpersonal skills, adaptability and a sense of versatility, as well as communications skills. Upon graduation, young professionals are eligible for jobs with nuclear operators, suppliers, companies that manufacture or use radioactive sources, and safety and security organizations. Students can join this program either immediately after Junior High School or after the first year of High School. The program lasts two to three years and includes at the end of the 11th Grade (penultimate year of secondary education) a vocational certificate in “Industrial equipment and products maintenance”.

Learning outcomes

After graduating from the vocational high school program in “Nuclear maintenance, logistics, and operation”, young professionals are able to:
  • observe the constraints and regulations related to nuclear environment,
  • identify potential and actual risks,
  • report to their superiors about the development of operations,
  • ensure the disposal of (conventional or radioactive) waste,
  • control environmental parameters.
